Programs Director

Waterman’s Community Center, a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation in North Haven, Maine, is seeking a hard working, energetic, and creative Programs Director. Applicant should be a versatile professional with program administration and/or program implementation experience and have an appreciation of the high level of community involvement needed for this undertaking to be successful. Job includes assessing programing needs, scheduling, organizing and administering all Waterman’s Community Center regular programs and special events as well as hands-on implementation and execution of year-round youth programs.

Position requires devotion to the arts, computer/internet proficiency, strong organizational and writing skills, basic knowledge of theater sound & lighting equipment, and interpersonal skills with people of all ages as well as a passion to see Waterman’s thrive. Experience in non-profit or organizational programing strongly suggested but not required.

Program Director will be a member of a 3-person team working together to see that Waterman’s Community Center achieves its mission of “Enriching our island community by nurturing the arts, creativity and education.

Hours:                         40 hours/week regularly including some weekend and evening hours.
                                    Schedule flexibility a must.

Compensation:            $17 - $19/hour. Depending on experience and job performance

Job Scope
            Program Coordinator has primary responsibilities for facilitating, organizing, promoting and budgeting all the exceptionally creative, enticing and educational programing the North Haven community has come to expect from Waterman’s Community Center. Enthusiasm for Waterman’s growth and program development as well as commitment to the importance of community involvement is essential.

 Basic Duties

  • Organize and lead the Programs Steering Committee.
  • With input from the Programs Steering Committee, plan, schedule, manage and document all of Waterman’s events and programs including but not limited to: concerts, symposia, lectures, plays, movies, camps, afterschool programs and workshops.
  • Manage all publicity and communication (digital & hard copy) for events and activities including: local posters, blackboards & whiteboards, website, calendars, Waterman’s Week, Facebook and other social media with the goal of maximizing community participation.
  • Budget, record, manage, and assess all program and event finances.
  • With North Haven Community School, coordinate joint programs and events.
  • Plan, oversee, implement, and lead WCC’s year-round youth programs such as Kids’ Night Out, Afterschool programs, Teen Nights, and Vacation Days.
  • Maintain current and accurate program archives.  
  • With Operations Coordinator, develop and maintain the building schedule.
  • With Executive Director, hire staff for summer camps and programs.
  • With Summer Camp Leaders, plan, organize, schedule and implement summer camps and workshops.
  • Collaborate with other town and mainland organizations on programing.
  • Facilitate Drama Committee undertakings as directed by Committee Chair(s).
  • Use theater, sound and technical skills for regular programming as needed.
  • Participate in Programs and Drama Committees.
  • Assist Executive Director in applying for grants.
  • Take on related duties and chores as assigned.

Requirements and Skills

  • Knowledge of program development and management.
  • Previous work experience in arts or education desired but not required.
  • Experience or strong interest in: music, theater, arts, youth camps, adult workshops.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies; excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Time-management and organizational skills a must; detail oriented and efficient.
  • Proficient in computer programs such as Word, Excel, InDesign, and various online social media platforms such as Constant Contact, Active Camps, Brown Paper Tickets.
  • Basic familiarity with lighting, sound & other theater technical equipment.
  • High energy and enthusiasm.
