Presentation: Finding Community Solutions: The Midcoast Maine Collaborative Scallop Project

North Haven Conservation Partners and Waterman's are proud to bring Caitlin Cleaver, director of science and research at the Hurricane Island Foundation, to discuss the work she has been doing with Maine scallop fishermen monitoring closed fishing areas since 2013.

HICSL has been working with scallop fishermen, state managers, and scientists to monitor a closed area on the Lower Muscle Ridge. Cait will share insights into the project approach and results to date as well as provide an overview of HICSL’s science and research initiatives.

Caitlin's bio: Caitlin (Cait) Cleaver is the Director of Science & Research at HICSL. In her position, she is able to develop and carry out baseline data collection on Hurricane as well as pursue community collaborations to answer questions that matter locally. Cait is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in ecology and environmental sciences with a focus on the human dimension of the Maine aquaculture industry. She holds a M.S. in Marine Biology, an M.S. in marine policy – both from the University of Maine, a M.P.A. from Columbia University and a B.A. in environmental policy from Colby College.
